Employment Protections; Barry Whaley, Southeast ADA Center Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act guarantees reasonable accommodation to ensure equality in the workplace. Often, employees, employers, and/or professionals are unsure of their respective roles in disability disclosure and reasonable accommodation. This presentation will discuss what disclosure and reasonable accommodation. We will address some of these questions. • What is disclosure? • Are people obligated to disclose a disability? • When is the “right time” to disclose a need for accommodation to an employer? • What are the concerns people have when they disclose a disability? • What is a reasonable accommodation? • When is an accommodation unreasonable?” • How does an employee request accommodation? • What is the role of the employment specialist in disclosure and reasonable accommodation? • What can be done to ensure that the process is respectful of the employee with a disability? • What are the responsibilities of the employer? This presentation fulfills requirements for Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors, Section C: Advocacy and Accessibility, C.1.Advocacy, section e and f. BARRELL Teamwork is the Key!; Lisa Lewis, Pennyroyal Center This session will include how the Supervisor promotes Teamwork in the Team Unit Meetings, by collaborating with Treatment Teams, and Vocational Rehab Counselors. ROCKBRIDGE Using KY DB 101 on Your Smart Phone; Carolyn Wheeler, UK – Human Development Institute and Jeff White, DDID Everyone who attends this conference most likely has a smart phone. KY DB 101 (https://ky.db101.org/) is VERY mobile friendly. If you have a decent cell signal, data or wi-fi, then you can open KY DB 101 from your phone to illustrate the impact of earnings on SSI or SSDI. Of course, you have to know what benefit the job seeker or employee receives. This session will be interactive. Bring your smart phone with enough battery to work together with others in the session to find answers to the question of “what happens to my check when I go to work?” STILL Building Bridges: Fostering Natural Supports for Inclusive Workplace Success; Tricia Jones-Parkin, Institute for Disability Policy and Practice In this session, “Building Bridges: Fostering Natural Supports for Inclusive Workplace Success,” participants will explore the essential role of natural supports in creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment for people with disabilities. Natural supports, which can include coworkers, supervisors, and workplace resources, are crucial for the long-term success and integration of employees with disabilities. 11:30 am – 12:45 pm: Awards Luncheon in the BARN 1:00 – 2:15 Concurrent Sessions: BARN Tailored Talent: A Customized Internship Story; Merry Reid Scheffer, Edge Employment, Kaitlin Keane and Kristen Webb, QK4 Join Kirsten (Intern), Kaitlin (Internship Host), and Merry Reid (Employment Specialist) as they reflect on their journey in creating a customized internship between two businesses! They will cover how Merry Reid learned about Kirsten’s most employable skills, how Kaitlin and Merry Reid connected, and how Kirsten’s internship came to be. BARRELL Outcome Based Supervision; Deandra Howard, UK – Human Development Institute This session will provide insight on implementing outcome-based supervision within your program. Measuring and using client outcomes is one of the essential tools the supervisor has to improve program performance. This session will assist supervisors in identifying which outcomes they want to measure. Outcomes provide clues about aspects of the program that are going well, and also clues about things that need to be changed. Program outcomes go hand in hand with program goals; to improve program performance, the supervisor and team can set goals together and identify how to achieve those goals. The best part of all is celebrating when those goals are met! ROCKBRIDGE Utilizing Pre-Voc to Enhance PCJS & JD; Kaitlyn Paschall and LeeAnn Creech, AOK How to utilize pre-vocational services and determine which area of service to use during the PCEP and job development, as well as how to leverage community connections to explore job opportunities. STILL To “with” or not to “with”: answering all your questions about respectful language and IDD; Laura N. Butler and Bev Harp, UK – Human Development Institute This session will focus on issues in the CRCC Code of Professional Ethics for Rehabilitation Counselors, including: the counseling relationship; confidentiality, privileged communication, and privacy; and advocacy and accessibility. Making sure you are using a person’s preferred language to refer to their relationship to disability is critical to building a positive counseling relationship. The person needs to be able to trust that you will use their preferred language when communicating with others. These issues should be addressed when having conversations around disability disclosure and/or accommodations.
